So schön ist Morsum

Das ehemalige Bauerndorf befindet sich auf der Wattseite an der Ostspitze der Insel. Die sieben Ortsteile liegen verstreut zwischen Wiesen und Feldern. Die Geest im Norden fällt als Steilufer ab. Die Marsch im Süden ist durch den Nössekoogdeich geschützt.

Naturfreunde erkunden das dreifarbige Morsum-Kliff aus dem Tertiär, das Vogelbrutgebiet in Auhörn sowie die Flora und Fauna von Deichvorland, Wiesen, Katrevel, Wäldchen und Morsumheide.

Kulturfreunde besichtigen die neolithischen Hünengräber und die romanische Kirche (12.Jh.) mit gotischem Schnitzaltar, in der regelmäßig Konzerte stattfinden. Im Moasem-Hüs gibt es häufig Veranstaltungen. Kunstgewerbeläden und Galerien laden zum Bummeln ein.

In Morsum finden Sie auch während der Hauptsaison einsame Plätze und entgehen dem allgemeinen Trubel. Sie können spazieren gehen, Rad fahren, joggen, ausreiten, Golf spielen, Bogenschießen, angeln oder am Badestrand (Wattseite) ausspannen.

Der Weststrand ist ca.10 Autominuten entfernt. Es geht aber auch ohne PKW. Es gibt Bus- und Bahnverbindungen nach Westerland sowie Fahrradverleihe. Ein Lebensmittelgeschäft mit Postagentur, eine Bank mit Geldautomat, die Kurverwaltung, eine Konditorei mit Cafegarten und Teestuben sowie sechs Restaurants sind vor Ort.

The Beautiful Village of Morsum

The former agrarian village of Morsum is located  on the Wattenmeer side of the eastern point of the Island. The seven parts that constitute the village are scattered between fields and meadows. The "Geest" in the north ends in a steep cliff whilst  the marsh in the south  is protected  by the "Nossekoog" Dike.

Nature lovers are attracted by the  distinctively couloured Morsum Cliff which dates from the geological  tertiary period, the protected bird breeding area at Auhorn and the flora and fauna of the land behind the dike; the meadows, the small woods and the  Morsum heath.

Culture vultures will find both the neolithic burial mounds and the church from  the 12th century with its carved altar worth a visit. In the local museum, the Moasem-Hus offers a variety of exhibitions and lectures and  local art  and crafts are exhibited and for sale.

The West beach is approximate 10 minutes  distant  and easily accesible by car;  public transport via Westerland and bicycle rental are other possibilities. A local general store, a Post Office and a Bank with an ATM,  a  bakery with a  Cafe garden and tea shop plus no less than six restrauants are located  in and around Morsum. The local "Kurverwaltung" where visitors must register and pay the local tourist tax  is also in Morsum.
